The 8TB Rugged RAID Shuttle USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C External Hard Drive fromLaCieis specifically engineered for use on film sets, during photo shoots, and in music studios. This device enables efficient data capture and transportation in various environments, offering resistance to rain, dust, and crushing, along with a drop resistance of up to 4 feet. Its design is both wide and flat, facilitating easy storage in bags and envelopes, and it incorporates hardware encryption with password protection, eliminating the need for additional encryption software to safeguard your data.

This external hard drive features a total storage capacity of 8TB, divided between two 4TB drives that support hardware RAID 0 and RAID 1 configurations. RAID 0 combines both drives to enhance read and write speeds, while RAID 1 creates a mirrored backup of one drive onto the other, ensuring a 1:1 data copy. Although RAID 0 offers superior performance, it lacks data redundancy, meaning that a drive failure results in total data loss. Conversely, RAID 1 provides data redundancy but at the expense of performance and usable capacity, reducing the available space to 4TB.

The Rugged RAID Shuttle is compatible with Windows 7 and later versions, as well as macOS 10.10 and later. It features a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C interface, also referred to as USB 3.2 Gen 2, capable of delivering speeds up to 250 MB/s. This interface is compatible with Thunderbolt 3 hosts and various USB generations, including USB 3.2/3.1 Gen 1 (USB 3.0) and USB 2.0. Power is supplied through bus power from the respective interface, and if the computer’s port does not provide sufficient power, a power adapter is included. A USB Type-C to Type-C cable is also provided. Additionally, the device comes with a limited 3-year Rescue Data Recovery Services plan.
