Ideal for various settings such as homes, stages, recital halls, places of worship, or classrooms, the satin black Kawai ES920 is a portable digital piano that offers the genuine touch and sound of a grand piano. It features realistic instrument sounds, a robust high-fidelity speaker system, and contemporary Bluetooth connectivity, all encased in a sleek and lightweight design.
The ES920 is equipped with 88 keys featuring Responsive Hammer III graded-weighted action, Ivory Touch key surfaces, and let-off simulation. It supports 256-note polyphony and includes sounds from the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX, SK-5, and EX grand pianos, along with Harmonic Imaging piano sound technology. This combination ensures a fulfilling playing experience, allowing for expressive dynamics that range from the softest pianissimo to the most powerful fortissimo, catering to pianists of all skill levels. Weighing only 37.5 pounds, this lightweight keyboard serves as an excellent portable stage piano or practice instrument for advanced and professional pianists across various musical genres.
In addition to the ten acoustic piano sounds, the ES920 provides a diverse selection of additional sounds, including electric pianos, drawbar and church organs, strings, choirs, and bass, totaling 38 distinct sounds. These can be easily accessed via the keyboard’s sophisticated control panel, which features an intuitive button layout and a sharp OLED graphic display, complete with 4-band EQ faders for convenient real-time adjustments during live performances.
The ES920 is also equipped with a robust 40W stereo speaker system that utilizes audio processing and amplification technologies developed in partnership with the esteemed Japanese audio experts at Onkyo. This exceptional hardware integration produces well-balanced bass and clear treble frequencies, effectively reproducing the exquisite sounds of the Shigeru Kawai grand pianos with remarkable tonal clarity and depth.
The integrated Rhythm Section function offers 100 styles, each with two variations, along with a selection of four-part backing accompaniment styles and 100 preset chord sequences, enabling performers to enhance the diversity of their musical presentations. The Dual playing mode allows for the layering of two distinct sounds, such as grand piano and strings, while the Split and Four Hands modes partition the keyboard into two separate sections.
The ES920 is equipped with Metronome, Transpose, and Tune functions. Its internal 2-track recorder boasts a capacity of 10 songs and 90,000 notes, serving as a valuable tool for tracking and improving ones performance. The onboard effects include six types of reverb, chorus, delay, amp simulation, and additional features.
With built-in Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth audio capabilities, users can enjoy wireless connectivity with applications like Kawai’s dedicated PianoRemote control app, as well as a variety of third-party learning and entertainment apps. Furthermore, music can be streamed from a smartphone or tablet directly through the piano’s audio system without the need for extra cables. The instrument also supports wired connections via standard MIDI, USB, and line in/out, offering versatile options for both studio and live performance settings.
When paired with the optional HM-5 designer stand and F-302 triple pedal bar, both available in a matching satin black finish, the ES920 becomes a chic, ultra-compact alternative to a grand piano, making it an excellent addition to a lounge, living room, office, or bedroom. An F-10H damper pedal is included with the instrument.
The Responsive Hammer III (RHIII) action emulates the unique feel of an acoustic grand piano, featuring realistic movement and advanced 3-sensor technology that delivers a smooth, natural, and highly responsive playing experience. The keyboard’s weight is carefully graded to reflect the heavier bass hammers and lighter treble hammers found in an acoustic piano. Additionally, structural reinforcements within the action assembly enhance stability during fortissimo and staccato passages.
Kawai’s Ivory Touch key surfaces effectively absorb moisture from the fingers, aiding the player’s performance. Furthermore, the let-off simulation replicates the subtle “notch” sensation experienced when playing the keys of a grand piano softly, meeting the expectations of even the most discerning pianists.
The ES920 digital piano captures the rich, expressive sound of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX, SK-5, and EX grand pianos, with all 88 keys of these exceptional instruments meticulously recorded, analyzed, and faithfully reproduced using Harmonic Imaging XL sound technology. This unique process accurately recreates the broad dynamic range of the original grand pianos, affording pianists an extraordinary level of expressiveness.
The instrument’s built-in Virtual Technician feature with 17 parameters allows various characteristics of these acoustic piano sounds to be shaped at the touch of a button, with settings to adjust string and damper resonance, in addition to subtle hammer, damper, and key release noises. This personalized piano sound is further enhanced with atmospheric reverberation effects, delivering a rich, vibrant piano tone with breathtaking realism and authenticity.

The ES920 digital piano is equipped with two USB connectors that allow the instrument to be connected to a computer for MIDI use and also enables you to load and save data directly to USB memory devices. This USB to Device feature allows registration memories and songs to be recorded and stored in internal memory and be saved to USB, or for standard MIDI files (SMF) to be downloaded from the internet and conveniently played back without additional hardware.
USB memory devices can also be used to play back MP3 or WAV audio files, allowing musicians to learn the chords or melody for a new piece, or to simply play along with their favorite songs. It is even possible to save performances as MP3 or WAV files for emailing to friends and family, listening on a smartphone, or for further editing using an audio workstation.
