The Focusrite ISA One is a single-channel microphone preamplifier that utilizes a transformer-based design, drawing inspiration from the original ISA 110 preamp, which was integral to each channel of the renowned Forte console. This device showcases a classic vintage architecture and is equipped with the Lundahl L1538 transformer along with a custom Zobel network.
In addition to its switchable input impedance options for the microphone preamp, the ISA One features a line input accessible via XLR and 1/4″ TRS phone jacks. Furthermore, it includes an independent DI channel that offers a dedicated gain control, an active or passive impedance switch, a 1/4″ TRS output for connecting to an amplifier, and a separate XLR output located at the rear.
The ISA One is equipped with an insert point, allowing for additional signal processing to be integrated between the preamp or DI and the optional analog-to-digital converter if necessary. The angled front panel also provides access to phantom power, phase reversal, and a 75 Hz, 18 dB/octave high-pass filter.
For independent input metering on both channels, a moving coil VU meter is included, featuring variable calibration to accommodate both analog and digital recording formats, in addition to two six-LED peak meters. Metering can be configured to occur either before or after the insert point. The calibration of the meters aligns with the reference points used in Avid’s Pro Tools HD systems, facilitating seamless integration with Pro Tools.
An exceptional addition is the Brainworx bx_console Focusrite SC channel-strip plug-in, which offers a remarkable digital emulation of the iconic and rare Focusrite Studio Console. With only ten of these consoles ever manufactured, users can now experience its renowned sound directly within their digital audio workstation.
