Focusrite Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic Eight Channel Preamp and Interface

The Focusrite Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic is an eight-channel preamplifier and compressor designed to enhance the input capabilities of any studio or live performance setting. It features eight combination inputs, each equipped with jacks that accommodate both 1/4″ and XLR cables. Additionally, two of these inputs are capable of handling Hi-Z instruments, enabling direct connection of guitars and basses. The rear panel also includes eight 1/4″ line outputs. Furthermore, the device offers eight channels of AD/DA conversion with a sampling rate of up to 192 kHz. When paired with the unit’s ADAT I/O section located on the back panel, these attributes make the Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic an excellent choice for augmenting the input and output capabilities of interfaces such as the Scarlett 18i8, 18i20, or any other interface that supports ADAT connectivity.

The Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic, as indicated by its name, features a compressor for each individual input. Specifically, it utilizes a soft-knee VCA compressor that is controlled by a signal knob. This compressor can be operated in a transparent mode to achieve a more natural response for managing transients, or the More button can be engaged to produce a more pronounced effect from the compressor. In addition to these dynamic controls, the high-headroom, second-generation Scarlett microphone preamps make this unit ideal for capturing loud sound sources, such as drums.

The device is equipped with 48V phantom power to support condenser microphones, along with a sample-rate selection button, a word clock sync button, an instrument mode button, and additional controls, all accessible from the front panel. The 5-segment LED input metering offers precise level monitoring. With its versatility in accepting and routing signals through ADAT or analog connection points, this device proves to be beneficial in both studio and live performance settings.
