TheNikon Z5 is a compact and proficient FX-format mirrorless camera, designed to meet the diverse requirements of both photography and videography. Featuring a 24.3MP CMOS sensor paired with the EXPEED 6 processor, it offers an impressive ISO sensitivity range up to 51200, enables rapid shooting at 4.5 frames per second, and supports UHD 4K video recording at 30 frames per second. Its elegant yet functional design incorporates a magnesium alloy body with weather-sealed construction, making it suitable for use in challenging weather conditions. The camera is equipped with a high-resolution 3.6 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder for clear eye-level viewing, while the rear 3.2-inch tilting touchscreen LCD with 1.04 million dots facilitates shooting from various angles. Furthermore, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, in conjunction with the Nikon SnapBridge app, allow for seamless wireless transfer of images and videos, as well as remote control of the camera via a mobile device.

24.3MP FX-Format CMOS Sensor and EXPEED 6 Image Processor

The camera features a full-frame, FX-format 24.3MP CMOS sensor, which is complemented by the EXPEED 6 image processor. This combination delivers a remarkable balance of high sensitivity, refined image quality, and rapid overall performance. With a native sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200, it is capable of functioning effectively in various lighting environments, and this range can be extended to ISO 102400 for exceptionally low-light situations. The synergy between the sensor’s resolution and size enhances image clarity and facilitates smooth color transitions while minimizing noise across the sensitivity spectrum. Furthermore, the EXPEED 6 processor not only enhances image quality but also ensures efficient operation throughout the camera system, achieving a maximum continuous shooting speed of 4.5 frames per second at full resolution, as well as the capability to capture 8MP images during video recording.

In terms of focusing capabilities, the sensor is equipped with a 273-point hybrid autofocus system that employs both phase-detection and contrast-detection techniques to swiftly and accurately achieve focus for still images and video. This advanced focusing system includes Eye Detection AF, which utilizes facial recognition technology to maintain focus on the subject’s eyes, as well as Face Detection for both stills and video, applicable to both humans and animals.

UHD 4K Video Recording

The Z5 is not limited to capturing still images; it also offers the capability to record UHD 4K video at a maximum of 30 frames per second and Full HD video at up to 60 frames per second. Users can store video files on the camera’s internal memory cards or transfer them to an optional external recorder through the HDMI output. Notably, UHD 4K recording employs a 1.7x crop of the central area of the frame, whereas Full HD recording utilizes the entire full frame. Furthermore, the camera supports in-camera time-lapse shooting, allowing for the creation of a completed UHD 4K video file directly within the device.

Sensor-Shift Vibration Reduction

The camera features an integrated 5-axis sensor-shift Vibration Reduction (VR) system that provides stabilization equivalent to five stops, independent of the lens being utilized. This mechanism is also compatible with adapted lenses when employing the optional FTZ Adapter, which utilizes a 3-axis stabilization approach. Additionally, for video recording, Electronic VR is available to enhance stability during handheld shooting.

Body Design and Connectivity

• The camera features a substantial 3.2-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1.04 million dots, ensuring bright, clear, and vibrant image playback as well as live view shooting. This screen is designed to tilt, accommodating shooting from both high and low angles, and it functions as a touchscreen for enhanced intuitive operation, navigation, and control of settings.
• For comfortable eye-level viewing, a 3.69 million-dot electronic viewfinder is included.
• The device is equipped with dual SD memory card slots, both of which support the UHS-II protocol, allowing for rapid and efficient saving of photo and video files.

• The built-in SnapBridge connectivity facilitates the seamless transfer of low-resolution images and offers remote shooting capabilities. With BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Wi-Fi, the camera can communicate with smart devices, allowing for remote shutter triggering and live view display from the camera, enabling operation from a distance.
• The included EN-EL15c rechargeable lithium-ion battery offers approximately 470 shots per charge, and in-camera charging via USB is supported, even during use. Furthermore, it is compatible with the optional MB-N10 multi-battery power pack for extended shooting durations.
