Tiffen 37mm Linear Polarizer Filter

The Tiffen 37mm Linear Polarizer Filter effectively minimizes reflections and glare by eliminating light that has become polarized as a result of bouncing off non-metallic surfaces. Sunlight is inherently partially polarized when it reflects off air molecules, leading to a scattering effect that manifests as haze. A polarizing filter aligns and filters this directionally polarized light at a right angle to the reflected light, enabling the absorption of a significant portion of it. Consequently, this leads to a marked decrease in glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces, while enhancing the vibrancy of skies and foliage.

The primary distinction between a linear polarizer and a circular polarizer is the absence of a quarter wave plate in the former, which is necessary for utilizing autofocus and exposure functions. Linear polarizers are particularly advantageous for manual cameras, such as view cameras, which do not rely on internal mechanisms for focus or metering.

Tiffen filters are crafted using ColorCore technology, which involves sandwiching the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, grinding it to a precision of 10,000th of an inch, and subsequently mounting it onto precision metal rings.
