The Voigtlander Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 II SC combines a compact design with exceptional performance, making it an ideal fast wide-angle prime lens for M-mount rangefinder cameras. This second iteration of the lens incorporates a symmetrical optical configuration that includes one element with abnormal partial dispersion. This design not only preserves the unique character and high color fidelity of the original lens but also minimizes field curvature and astigmatism, enhancing focusing precision and ensuring consistent sharpness throughout the image. Unlike the more prevalent multi-layer coatings, this lens employs a single coating, resulting in a subtler image quality with slightly lower contrast, which is particularly advantageous for black and white photography. • Version II of this lens features a refined optical design that is better suited for use with digital cameras, especially in conjunction with focusing using live view. The optical integrity has been maintained, keeping the characteristic spherical aberrations for a classic look, however the field curvature and astigmatism has been significantly reduced for improved focusing accuracy and even sharpness across the entire image plane.
